This project with a contract value of $12,255,740.00 included 1.63 miles of roadway improvements. A few notable features of this project included two new signalized intersections, 9,570LF of storm drain, five new box culverts and box culvert extensions, 52,000CY of roadway excavation, 7,100SF of cast-in-place retaining wall, 14,000SF of soil nail wall with 19,000SF of architectural shotcrete, 12,000SF of masonry noise barrier wall, 12,500SY of grouted rip rap, 27,000 TONS of asphalt paving, and a two-lane bridge, which spans the Canada Del Oro Wash approximately 320LF.
Spearheading this project was Ed Anderson (Project Manager), Adam Sedgeman (Project Engineer), Troy Ballard (Project Superintendent), and Dan Reese (Structure Superintendent). Throughout this project there were challenges, including numerous utility contractors that were not complete by their designated contract dates, 13 plan revisions, 94 requests for information, 469 tracked force account items, and severe rain delays.
Even though there were obstacles that could have impeded KE&G’s production on this project, this job is scheduled to finish approximately 50 days ahead of the allowable contract time and under budget. Along with the immense amount of hard work and dedication by every individual working on this project, two value engineering designs and a revised bridge deck drain design were submitted and approved by Pima County – saving KE&G upwards of $30,000.00.
