Expanding Oro Valley's Water Delivery System
Installing critical water infrastructure to strengthen the Town of Oro Valley's Northwest Recharge, Recovery, and Delivery System.
KE&G installed more than 4,200 linear feet of new ductile iron discharge main as part of the Town of Oro Valley's Northwest Recharge, Recovery, and Delivery System improvements. The project included pipeline installation, cathodic protection, testing, and site restoration across both developed and undeveloped areas, delivering a fully operational water transmission system.
Project Overview
As communities grow, reliable water infrastructure becomes increasingly important. The Town of Oro Valley's Northwest Recharge, Recovery, and Delivery System (NWRDDS) improvements were designed to strengthen the community's water delivery network and support long-term system reliability.
KE&G constructed a new discharge main consisting of approximately 3,009 linear feet of 16-inch ductile iron pipe and 1,237 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe. The pipeline crossed both paved parking areas and undeveloped desert terrain, requiring construction methods that adapted to varying site conditions while maintaining compliance with project specifications.
With approximately 95% of the work self-performed, KE&G delivered the underground utility improvements while coordinating with the Town of Oro Valley, utility stakeholders, and project requirements throughout construction.
Scope of Work
- Installed approximately 3,009 LF of 16-inch ductile iron pipe.
- Installed approximately 1,237 LF of 12-inch ductile iron pipe.
- Performed excavation, trenching, bedding, and backfill.
- Installed fittings, valves, thrust restraints, and pipe jointing systems.
- Installed a cathodic protection system, including anodes, bonding connections, and test stations.
- Performed hydrostatic testing of both pipeline sizes in accordance with AWWA standards.
- Restored paved parking areas and disturbed desert terrain.
- Implemented dust control and erosion control measures.
- Prepared record drawings and as-built documentation. Coordinated final inspection and owner acceptance.
Our Approach
Installing large-diameter water infrastructure required careful planning and sequencing across multiple site conditions. KE&G coordinated work in both developed parking areas and open desert, adjusting construction activities to suit each environment while maintaining project progress.
The team self-performed the majority of the work, allowing greater control over quality, production, and coordination throughout pipeline installation. Pipe placement, cathodic protection, hydrostatic testing, and restoration activities were completed in accordance with project specifications before final acceptance by the owner. Throughout construction, KE&G coordinated with the Town of Oro Valley, utility stakeholders, and applicable permitting requirements to keep the project moving while meeting regulatory and environmental obligations. The completed improvements provide a fully tested and operational discharge main that supports the Town's long-term water infrastructure needs.
